Before the day
Send a photo of the piano, the stairs, and the door. Say whether it is an upright or a grand. A grand needs more room and a cover. A narrow elevator moves the plan to the stairs or a window in advance.
Clear the corridor. A rug that slides under the wheels is more dangerous than the weight. Tuning after the move is a piano technician’s job, not the crew’s: strings shift even on a careful carry.
On the day
The body is wrapped, the keyboard stays closed, and the instrument comes down at an even pace. A grand is not laid on one side “to make the corner”. If the corner fails, we stop and use a hoist that was already planned, or we postpone. We do not break a railing.
